Blockers follows three teenage girls who are close friends and attend the same high school. Before prom, they make a pact to lose their virginity that night. Their parents find out about the plan: Julie's single mother Lisa, Kayla's emotional father Mitchell, and Sam's divorced father Hunter. The three adults, deeply concerned and overprotective, set out on a covert operation during prom night to stop their daughters, though their poorly organised efforts quickly turn chaotic.
The 2018 comedy was directed by Kay Cannon, marking her feature directorial debut, and written by Jim Kehoe and Brian Kehoe. Leslie Mann plays Lisa, John Cena plays Mitchell, and Ike Barinholtz plays Hunter, while Kathryn Newton, Geraldine Viswanathan and Gideon Adlon play the daughters. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jon Hurwitz are among the producers. Cannon went on to direct Cinderella in 2021 and My Ex-Friend's Wedding in 2024.
Made for a budget of 21 million US dollars, the film earned around 94 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from roughly 92,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 from over 2,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 from 227 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
