No Highway in the Sky

No Highway in the Sky is a British-American drama and thriller from 1951. Theodore Honey is an aeronautical engineer and researcher, brilliant but notably absent-minded and eccentric. His work on metal fatigue leads him to a troubling conclusion: the tail section of a new airliner his employer is producing is liable to fail after a set number of flying hours. The company and its experts are confident in the aircraft and dismiss his warnings, and when one of the planes crashes, Honey is sent to the site to investigate. As he travels, he comes to believe the aircraft carrying him is approaching the very limit he calculated.

Henry Koster directed the film, which followed his work on The Bishop's Wife and Harvey and preceded titles including The Robe and Marilyn. James Stewart leads the cast as Honey, appearing alongside Marlene Dietrich, Glynis Johns, Jack Hawkins, Janette Scott and Elizabeth Allan. The screenplay was written by R.C. Sherriff, Oscar Millard and Alec Coppel, and Louis D. Lighton produced.

Released in June 1951, the film runs 98 minutes. It holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 5,000 votes, and a rating of 7 out of 10 on TMDB from 66 votes, indicating a generally favourable response across both audiences, though the IMDb sample is considerably larger.
