The Wages of Fear
Short description
The Wages of Fear is set in a remote, impoverished settlement in Latin America where an American oil company is the only significant employer. Work and money are scarce, so when a well catches fire, four men with nowhere else to go accept a job hauling two truckloads of nitroglycerin across rough terrain to the oil field. The cargo is unstable, the roads are bad, and the journey forces the men to depend on one another while their relationships fray along the way. Among them are Mario, a Corsican played by Yves Montand, and Mr. Jo, an older newcomer played by Charles Vanel, alongside Peter van Eyck and Folco Lulli.
Henri-Georges Clouzot directed and co-wrote the film with Jérôme Géronimi, and produced it with Raymond Borderie. It followed his 1949 feature Manon and came before Diabolique, The Truth and Woman in Chains. Véra Clouzot appears as Linda, with Antonio Centa as the camp chief. The film runs 154 minutes and was made in Italy and France.
The film holds an 8.1 rating on IMDb from 73,000 votes and an 8 out of 10 on TMDB from 1,127 votes, while its critics' rating stands at 9.3 out of 10 from 54 reviews.

- The film features two trucks – a Dodge T110 with a 3-ton payload, produced by the Canadian branch of Chrysler, and a three-axle White-666 (also produced under the brands Brockway, Corbitt, FWD, and Ward la France) with a 6-ton payload (as opposed to the 10 tons mentioned in the film).
