Susana is a young woman held in a reformatory who manages to get away and makes her way to a rural estate belonging to Don Guadalupe. There she is taken in by the household, but her presence soon unsettles the routines and relationships of the family that lives and works on the property. Presenting herself as innocent, she draws the attention of the men around her, including the foreman Jesús and Don Guadalupe's son Alberto, setting off tensions within the household.
The 1951 Mexican drama was directed by Luis Buñuel from a screenplay he wrote with Jaime Salvador, and was produced by Sergio Kogan through Internacional Cinematográfica. Running 86 minutes, it was the third of the fifteen films Buñuel directed in chronological order, arriving between The Young and the Damned in 1950 and Él in 1953. Rosita Quintana plays the title role, with Fernando Soler as Don Guadalupe, Víctor Manuel Mendoza as Jesús, Matilde Palou as Doña Carmen, María Gentil Arcos as Felisa and Luis López Somoza as Alberto.
On TMDB the film holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from around fifty votes, a modest total that points to a limited but steady viewership rather than wide contemporary attention.
