Real Men is an action comedy with a science fiction premise. A CIA operative, Nick Pirandello, has been handling a delicate arrangement with visitors from another world who have offered to solve humanity's problems in exchange for something as ordinary as a glass of water. When the agent who brokered the deal dies, Nick needs a stand-in who looks enough like him to keep the exchange on track. He settles on Bob Wilson, a timid insurance salesman with none of the instincts the job demands, and sets about turning him into a convincing secret agent. Soviet agents pursuing the same prize complicate matters, and the whole affair unfolds over a handful of days.
Dennis Feldman wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Martin Bregman and released in September 1987. Jim Belushi plays Nick, with John Ritter as Bob, and Barbara Barrie, Bill Morey, Isa Jank and Gail Barle among the supporting cast. It runs 85 minutes.
Audience response has been modest. On IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 from roughly 5,300 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of 91 votes. The two scores land close together, indicating a middling but not hostile reception from viewers.
