Girls with Balls is a Belgian-French horror comedy about a women's volleyball team, the Falcons, whose minivan breaks down in a remote stretch of countryside. The players and their coach soon realise they have strayed into territory used by a group of hunters who treat the night as a sport, and the team spends it running for their lives. As the hours pass, the Falcons prove more capable than their pursuers expect, and the roles of predator and prey begin to shift.
Olivier Afonso directed the film, his first feature, and wrote the screenplay with Jean-Luc Cano. Jérôme Vidal and Jean-Marie Antonini produced it for Volcano Films, SCOPE Pictures, Saga Film and Noodles Production, with a budget of about four million dollars. The cast includes Artus as the coach and Manon Azem, Louise Blachère, Tiphaine Daviot, Margot Dufrene and Anne-Solenne Hatte as members of the team. The film runs seventy-seven minutes.
Released in July 2019, the film drew a limited response. Its critics' rating sits at 4.9 out of 10 from eleven reviews, while audiences were harsher: on IMDb it holds 4 out of 10 from roughly 4,100 votes, and on TMDB it has 4.2 out of 10 from about 250 votes. The narrow gap between the critics' score and the audience scores suggests broad indifference rather than sharp disagreement.
