Maya 3D is a Sri Lankan comedy-drama with horror elements that centres on Malan, a twenty-five-year-old unemployed man who fills his days playing cricket with his friends. He has an intense, irrational fear of ghosts, and once the sun goes down he hurries indoors, where he feels safe. So dependent is he on his widowed mother, Geetha, that he sleeps beside her and wants her with him at the bathroom and at meals. His behaviour wears on the rest of the household, among them his brother Gamini, Gamini's wife Nirmala and their children.
The film was directed by Donald Jayantha from a screenplay by Raja Sadesh Kumar, and runs 160 minutes. It was released on 14 September 2016 and is a Sri Lankan production. The large credited cast of twenty-two includes Ranjan Ramanayake, who plays Maya and Mayantha, alongside Yohan Perera as the younger Maya and Mayantha, Pubudu Chathuranga as Malan, Shehara Hewadewa as Shaini, Giriraj Kaushalya as Gamini and Nihal Fernando as Ramu.
Audience response has been very limited: on IMDb the film holds a rating of 4 out of 10 from 12 votes, which indicates that it attracted little attention and that those who have seen it were largely unenthusiastic.
