Sick of Myself
Short description
Set in Oslo, Sick of Myself follows Signe, whose boyfriend Thomas has become a recognised contemporary artist by making sculptures out of stolen furniture. As his fame grows, Signe feels pushed into the background within the circle of the city's cultural elite, and she sets out to win back the attention she believes she deserves. Her plan involves manufacturing an illness for herself so that the people around her will take notice and sympathise, but the deception soon takes on a life of its own.
Kristoffer Borgli wrote and directed the film, his first feature, and it was followed by Dream Scenario in 2023 and The Drama in 2026. Kristine Kujath Thorp plays Signe, with Eirik Sæther as Thomas and supporting turns from Fanny Vaager, Fredrik Stenberg Ditlev-Simonsen, Sarah Francesca Brænne and Steinar Klouman Hallert. Dyveke Bjørkly Graver and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar produced the Norwegian, Danish, French and Swedish co-production, which runs 97 minutes and blends comedy and drama with horror elements.
Released in 2022, the film grossed about 1 million USD worldwide. It holds a 7.1 rating on IMDb from roughly 23,000 votes and a 7.2 on TMDB from 444 votes, while its critics' rating stands at 7.2 from 68 reviews, placing audience and critical response closely in line.
What's left behind the scenes
- Anders Danielsen Lee appears on screen in a cameo role as a hospital doctor speaking with the main character, played by Kristine Kujt Torp. In reality, this Norwegian actor is a licensed physician and often treats patients between filming schedules.
- In the film, the main character sings a song by the artist Cezinando. In 2022, he was arrested for stealing designer furniture, which is the same trade as the character played by Christopher Borgli, with whom the main character lives.
