The 15:17 to Paris recounts the events of August 21, 2015, when a gunman opened fire aboard Thalys train 9364 traveling from Amsterdam toward Paris. Three young Americans on a trip through Europe intervened and helped subdue the attacker, saving the passengers on board. The film follows the three friends from their childhoods and their separate paths, including military service, through the travels that placed them on that train.
Clint Eastwood directed the film, the thirty-seventh of the forty he has directed in chronological order, arriving between The Mule and Richard Jewell. Dorothy Blyskal wrote the screenplay, and Eastwood produced with Tim Moore and Jessica Meier. In an unusual choice, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos play themselves, while Judy Greer and Jenna Fischer appear in supporting roles. The credited cast runs to twenty-nine performers.
Released in February 2018, the drama runs 94 minutes and was made for about 30 million dollars, earning roughly 57 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from around 37,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 from about 1,730. A critics' rating of 4.3 from 165 reviews places it below the audience scores.
