Tehran Taboo

Tehran Taboo follows three headstrong women and a young musician whose paths cross in the Iranian capital. In a city where strict religious law governs daily life but sex, corruption and drugs are never far away, each of them finds that breaking a taboo is a way of claiming a little freedom. The film is animated, though its subject matter is adult and grounded in contemporary urban reality, and it is set among ordinary people navigating the gap between public rules and private behaviour.

Ali Soozandeh directed and wrote the film, which was released in 2017. It was produced by Ali Samadi Ahadi, Frank Geiger and Armin Hofmann, and made in Germany and Austria with backing from German film funding bodies and ZDF. The cast includes Arash Marandi, Alireza Bayram, Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Klaus Ofczarek, Morteza Tavakoli and Şiir Eloğlu, with 21 credited performers in total, and the running time is 96 minutes. It sits among the director's early features, following his short work.

Audience response has been positive without being overwhelming: on IMDb the film holds 7.1 out of 10 from around 5,300 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 7.1 out of 10, from roughly 106 votes. The much larger IMDb sample suggests a steady, fairly well-regarded title rather than a widely seen one.
