Juliet, Naked

Annie Platt lives in a small English seaside town with her boyfriend Duncan, whose life revolves around Tucker Crowe, a rock musician who vanished from public view after releasing a single acclaimed album decades earlier. Duncan runs a website devoted to Tucker and trades theories with other fans about what became of him. When a stripped-down acoustic demo of that album comes to light, Annie posts a dismissive review of it, mainly to needle Duncan. The post draws a reply from Tucker himself, and an unexpected correspondence begins between Annie and the reclusive singer, forcing her to reconsider the relationship she has settled into.

Jesse Peretz directed the film, his third feature after The Ex and Our Idiot Brother, from a screenplay by Jim Taylor, Tamara Jenkins and Evgenia Peretz. Rose Byrne plays Annie, Ethan Hawke plays Tucker and Chris O'Dowd plays Duncan, with Azhy Robertson, Lily Brazier and Megan Dodds in supporting roles. Barry Mendel, Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa produced the British-American production for Apatow Productions, Los Angeles Media Fund and Bona Fide.

The film runs 97 minutes and was released in August 2018. It holds a 6.6 rating on IMDb from around 26,000 votes and a 6.3 on TMDB from roughly 550 votes, while its critics' rating stands at 6.9 from 170 reviews. Critics therefore rated it somewhat more favourably than the two audiences did.
