Lust, Caution

Set in Shanghai during the Japanese occupation of the 1940s, Lust, Caution follows Wong Chia Chi, a university student who joins a resistance group plotting to kill Mr. Yee, a senior official in the Japanese puppet government. She adopts the identity of Mrs. Mak, a sophisticated married woman, in order to get close to Yee through his wife. What begins as an assignment grows into a complicated emotional bond between the two, and the line between her assumed life and her real feelings becomes difficult to hold.

Ang Lee directed the film, the tenth of fourteen he has made, following Brokeback Mountain and preceding Taking Woodstock. James Schamus and Wang Huiling wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Tang Wei as Wong Chia Chi, Tony Leung Chiu-wai as Mr. Yee, Leehom Wang, Joan Chen, Tsung-Hua Tou and Jacqueline Zhu Zhi-Ying, with 43 credited cast members and 60 credited crew.

Made on a budget of about 15 million dollars, the film took roughly 67 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from around 48,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.3 from 843 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 across 149 reviews places it close to the audience scores. It runs 158 minutes and was released in September 2007.
