Django, Prepare a Coffin

Django, Prepare a Coffin follows a gunman who takes work as a hangman for a corrupt political boss. The boss stages executions of innocent locals to seize their land, but the man carrying out the hangings has no intention of killing them: he lets the condemned survive and quietly gathers the men he has saved into a band of his own. His aim is revenge on the politician, whom he holds responsible, together with a former close friend, for the death of his wife years earlier. The plan sets him against the boss and the armed men who keep the region under control.

Ferdinando Baldi directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Franco Rossetti, with Manolo Bolognini producing. It was Baldi's fourth feature in the chronological list of his work, arriving after Texas, Adios in 1966 and before Get Mean in 1975. Terence Hill plays the lead, and Horst Frank appears as the political boss David Barry, alongside George Eastman, Barbara Simon, Pinuccio Ardia and Guido Lollobrigida among a credited cast of twenty-six.

The Italian production was released in January 1968 and runs 92 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from around 3,500 votes; on TMDB its rating is 6.3 from 115 votes, so audience scores at both places sit close together and point to a modest but settled following.
