Short description

A college professor experiences a profound shift in perspective after receiving a terminal medical diagnosis. Facing his own mortality, he chooses to abandon social conventions and professional inhibitions to live the remainder of his life with reckless freedom. He adopts a biting sense of humor and indulges in various vices, directing his newfound rebelliousness toward authority and hypocrisy while seeking personal liberation.

Directed by Wayne Roberts, who also wrote the screenplay, the film stars Johnny Depp as Richard Brown. The cast includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Odessa Young, Danny Huston, Zoey Deutch, and Devon Terrell, with a total of 34 credited performers. Produced in the United States by companies including Lionsgate and Saban Films, the movie has a runtime of 90 minutes.

The production earned 4 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is generally positive, with a rating of 6.7/10 on IMDb from 41,000 votes and 6.8/10 on TMDB from 1,289 votes. These viewers rated the film significantly higher than critics, who gave it a rating of 4.9/10 based on 19 reviews.

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the 76th minute of the film, when the main character delivers a toast, it’s visible that he is holding a wine glass with red wine, but in the next shot he is already holding a champagne glass with a different drink.
  • In one of the film's episodes, Richard, played by Johnny Depp, hears the ringing of bells on a university campus. This is a reference to a phrase from the English poet and preacher John Donne, "… do not ask for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee…". Later, viewers see Ernest Hemingway's novel "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (1940) on the screen, standing on a bookshelf in the main character's office.
