Sweet Country

Set in Australia's Northern Territory in the late 1920s, Sweet Country follows Sam Kelly, an Aboriginal stockman and farm worker employed by a kindly preacher, Fred Smith. When a resentful white landowner named Harry March arrives and tensions between the two men escalate, Sam kills him in self-defence. He and his pregnant wife, Lizzie, flee into the outback, pursued by Sergeant Fletcher and a determined posse. As the pursuit wears on and Lizzie's condition worsens, Sam must decide whether to keep running or surrender to the authorities and trust in a court system stacked against him.

Directed by Warwick Thornton, the film is the second of four features he has made, following The Turning and preceding The New Boy and Wolfram. Hamilton Morris plays Sam, with Bryan Brown as Sergeant Fletcher, Sam Neill as Fred Smith and Ewen Leslie as Harry March. David Tranter and Steven McGregor wrote the screenplay, and the film runs 113 minutes.

On IMDb, Sweet Country holds a rating of 8.2 out of 10 from 92 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 219 votes, suggesting critics responded more warmly than general viewers.
