Possum

Possum is a British horror film about Philip, a children's puppeteer whose career has collapsed. He travels back to the house where he grew up, carrying a puppet in a case, and must face Maurice, the stepfather who made his childhood a misery, along with memories he has spent years trying to bury. What he finds at the old house forces a reckoning with the past rather than the escape he hoped for.

Matthew Holness wrote and directed the film, which marked his feature debut as a director after his earlier work in television comedy. Sean Harris plays Philip and Alun Armstrong plays Maurice, heading a cast of twenty-eight credited performers supported by sixty-eight credited crew members. Robert Jones, James Harris and Wayne Marc Godfrey produced, with backing from the BFI, The Fyzz, Bankside Films and Evandine Productions on a budget of about one million dollars. The film runs eighty-five minutes.

Possum opened on 26 October 2018. Critics rated it 7.7 out of 10 across forty-three reviews, a stronger response than the 5.8 out of 10 it holds on IMDb from around twelve thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 out of 10 from roughly three hundred fifty votes. The gap suggests the film found more favour with reviewers than with general audiences.
