Valley Girl is a musical romance set in the early 1980s. Julie Richman lives in the San Fernando Valley, where she runs with a popular clique of girls and is dating Mickey, the most admired boy at their high school. A trip into Los Angeles brings her together with Randy, a punk musician from Hollywood whose world could hardly be more different from her own. The two fall for each other, and their families and friends disapprove, so they try to hold on to the relationship across the divide between them. A framing story follows Julie years later as an adult, telling her teenage daughter about her own youth, and the film is a musical remake of the 1983 film of the same name.
Rachel Lee Goldenberg directed, working from a screenplay by Amy Talkington, with Steven J. Wolfe and Matt Smith producing for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Orion Classics, Orion Pictures and Sneak Preview Productions. Jessica Rothe plays Julie, Josh Whitehouse plays Randy, and Jessie Ennis, Ashleigh Murray, Chloe Bennet and Logan Paul appear in supporting roles among a credited cast of seventy-seven. The film runs 102 minutes and was released in May 2020, arriving between Goldenberg's A Deadly Adoption and Unpregnant in her filmography.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.5 from roughly 4,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.6 from about 109 votes, placing both measures in similar territory.
