The Baby-Sitters Club

The Baby-Sitters Club is a 1995 American family comedy-drama about a group of teenage girls in a small town who run a babysitting business together. When summer arrives and their earnings prove modest, the club's founder, Kristy, proposes turning their operation into a full-day summer camp for the neighbourhood children. The plan brings its own complications: mischievous kids running wild, a noise-sensitive neighbour upset by the chaos, a rival clique looking to undermine the club, and the first stirrings of romance. The film is based on the popular book series, with the club set in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

Melanie Mayron directed, working from a screenplay by Dalene Young. The film was the first feature Mayron directed, ahead of Toothless, Mean Girls 2 and Snapshots. The cast includes Schuyler Fisk as Kristy, Bre Blair as Stacey, Rachael Leigh Cook as Mary Anne, Larisa Oleynik as Dawn, Tricia Joe as Claudia and Stacy Linn Ramsower as Mallory, among 47 credited performers. Produced by Jane Startz and Peter O. Almond for Columbia Pictures, Scholastic Productions and Beacon Pictures, it cost about 7 million dollars and took roughly 10 million dollars worldwide.

Ratings place it in middling territory. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 7,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 out of 10 from just over 100 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 15 reviews sits close to the audience scores, suggesting neither group regarded the film as more than an amiable adaptation of its source.
