Dogman

Dogman is a crime drama set in a bleak coastal suburb where Marcello, a mild-mannered dog groomer, runs a modest salon and cares for his young daughter. His life is overshadowed by Simoncino, a violent former boxer who terrorizes the neighborhood. Marcello, liked by those around him, stays loyal to Simoncino and is drawn into his criminal activities, until a humiliating event leaves him stripped of the respect of his neighbors. Determined to reclaim his dignity, he devises a plan for revenge.

Matteo Garrone directed the film, his sixth feature, following Tale of Tales and coming before Pinocchio in his filmography. He wrote the screenplay with Ugo Chiti and Massimo Gaudioso, and produced it with Jeremy Thomas and Jean Labadie. Marcello Fonte plays Marcello, with Edoardo Pesce as Simoncino, and Nunzia Schiano, Adamo Dionisi, Francesco Acquaroli and Alida Baldari Calabria in supporting roles. The film was released in 2018 and runs 103 minutes.

Dogman earned a worldwide box office of about 5 million USD. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2/10 from roughly 32,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.5/10 from about 2,300 votes. The film critics' rating stands at 7.5/10 from 117 reviews, in line with the audience scores.
