Polar

Duncan Vizla, known in his profession as the Black Kaiser, is the most lethal contract killer in the world, and he is ready to walk away from the life. His former employer has other plans, however: rather than let him retire, the organization marks him for elimination and sends a squad of younger, faster and more merciless assassins after him. Forced back into the work he thought he had left behind, Duncan has to survive the hunt. When a young woman who lives nearby is drawn into the conflict, his position becomes more complicated still.

The film is an adaptation of the graphic novel Polar: Came From the Cold by Victor Santos. Jonas Åkerlund directed it from a screenplay by Jayson Rothwell, with Jeremy Bolt, Robert Kulzer and Mike Richardson producing. It is Åkerlund's seventh directorial feature, arriving after Lords of Chaos in 2018, and it comes from a production backed by Constantin Film, Dark Horse Entertainment and JB Pictures. Mads Mikkelsen leads as Duncan, with Vanessa Hudgens as Camille, Katheryn Winnick as Vivian, Inga Cadranel as Regina, Fei Ren as Hilde and Ruby O. Fee as Sindy. Forty-nine cast members and forty crew members are credited.

Released on January 25, 2019, Polar has drawn a mixed response. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 across roughly 107,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.4 out of 10. Critics were considerably less enthusiastic, giving it 3.5 out of 10 from 51 reviews, a score well below the audience figures.
