Farewell, Friend

Two French Foreign Legion veterans, the American mercenary Franz Propp and the French doctor Dino Barran, serve together and then part ways. They meet again years later in Marseille, where each has his own reason to be interested in a heavily protected safe inside a large company's offices. Barran has agreed to return some documents that were taken from it, which means getting inside the building, working on the safe's combination without drawing attention, and slipping out when the doors open during a holiday weekend. Propp turns up at the same time, and the two men are trapped together in the building, forced into an uneasy arrangement despite the hostility between them.

Jean Herman directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Sébastien Japrisot. The film was produced by Serge Silberman for Greenwich Film Production and Medusa Distribuzione, and stars Alain Delon and Charles Bronson as the two legionnaires, with Olga Georges-Picot, Bernard Fresson, Brigitte Fossey and Ellen Bahl among the twenty credited cast members.

Released in August 1968, the film runs 115 minutes and mixes crime and thriller elements with action and adventure. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from roughly 4,900 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from 114 votes, indicating a modest but settled audience following rather than a widely celebrated title.
