BlacKkKlansman follows Ron Stallworth, who becomes the first African American detective in the Colorado Springs police department in the 1970s. Facing scepticism and hostility from colleagues, he sets out to make a difference by attempting something improbable: infiltrating the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. Because he cannot attend meetings in person without giving himself away, a Jewish colleague, Flip Zimmerman, poses as him at the face-to-face encounters, while Stallworth handles the phone calls and gradually wins the trust of Klan figures including David Duke. The deception grows more complicated as the two men uncover what the group is planning.

Spike Lee directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Willmott and David Rabinowitz. The film is the twenty-third of twenty-six he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Chi-Raq and Pass Over. John David Washington plays Stallworth, with Adam Driver as Zimmerman, Topher Grace as Duke, Laura Harrier as Patrice Dumas, Alec Baldwin as Dr. Kennebrew Beauregard and Jasper Pääkkönen as Felix Kendrickson, among a credited cast of thirty-eight and a credited crew of 122.

Made for a budget of 15 million USD, the film took about 93 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.5/10 from roughly 313,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.5/10 from more than 8,000 votes. A critics' rating of 8.3/10 from 448 reviews places it above both audience scores.
