Blindspotting

Collin is in the final days of his probation and wants nothing more than to put his past behind him. He works as a mover in Oakland alongside Miles, his oldest friend, whose talent for trouble keeps pulling them both toward the wrong side of the law. Their neighborhood is changing fast as new money moves in, and the two men find their long friendship tested when Collin witnesses a police shooting. What he has seen forces him to weigh the new life he is trying to build against the loyalties and pressures of the place he grew up in.

The film is directed by Carlos López Estrada, who also made Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal wrote the screenplay together and star as Collin and Miles. Diggs also produced, alongside Keith Calder and Jessica Wu. The supporting cast includes Janina Gavankar, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Ethan Embry and Tisha Campbell. It runs 95 minutes.

Released in July 2018, the film drew strong notices from critics, earning 8.1 out of 10 across 179 reviews, while audiences were somewhat more measured: 7.4 on IMDb from around 34,000 votes and 7.3 on TMDB from a smaller base of roughly 750. That gap suggests a film that impressed reviewers more than it reached a broad public, though the large IMDb turnout shows it found a committed audience after its theatrical run.
