Cocaine Godmother

Cocaine Godmother tells the story of Griselda Blanco, who arrives in the United States as a teenager with a false passport and her first husband, Carlos, and settles in Queens with her sons. Attracted by the money that the drug trade offers, she becomes involved with local traffickers and gradually builds her own operation, smuggling cocaine in from Colombia. Her methods include using women, older people and children as couriers, along with specially made suitcases with hidden compartments. Over the following decade she rises to lead a powerful trafficking empire, described in some accounts as connected to the Medellín cartel, and deals ruthlessly with rivals and enemies.

The film is a crime drama made for television, directed by Guillermo Navarro and produced by Lighthouse Pictures, Lifetime and Asylum Entertainment. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Griselda Blanco, with Raúl Méndez as Darío Sepúlveda, Juan Pablo Espinosa as Alberto Bravo, Jenny Pellicer as Carolina, and Matteo Stefan and Spencer Borgeson as Dixon and Osvaldo Trujillo Blanco. It runs 100 minutes and was released in 2017.

Audience response has been mixed. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 2,900 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.4 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 77 votes.
