RBG

RBG is a documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the associate justice of the US Supreme Court, looking at her life and her long legal career. It follows her path from a working-class background and law school in the 1950s, through her time as a lawyer arguing for gender equality, to her appointment to the Supreme Court in 1993. The film traces both her public work on the bench and her private life, including her marriage to Martin Ginsburg, and shows how she became an unexpected figure in popular culture, known to many by the nickname Notorious RBG.

Betsy West and Julie Cohen directed and produced the film, their first feature, with West going on to make Top of the World and Cohen directing Every Body and later Top of the World. The cast is made up of Ginsburg herself and people close to her, among them her children Jane C. Ginsburg and James Steven Ginsburg, her granddaughter Clara Spera, journalist Nina Totenberg and activist Gloria Steinem, in a credited cast of 38.

Released in May 2018, the film runs 98 minutes. It took about 2 million dollars worldwide, a modest figure for a documentary. Audiences rate it 7.5 out of 10 on TMDB, and critics give it 7.4 out of 10 from 181 reviews; the two scores sit close together, indicating broad approval from both groups.
