10 Things I Hate About You

Cameron, a new student at a high school in Padua, falls for Bianca Stratford right away. Bianca is popular and eager to date, but her father has a strict rule: she may only go out once her older sister Kat does. Kat is sharp-tongued and hostile to would-be suitors, so that condition seems unlikely ever to be met. To get around it, Cameron and his friend Michael set out to find someone willing to take Kat out, and the candidate they settle on is Patrick Verona, a sullen outsider with a reputation to match hers. Bianca, for her part, is drawn to the wealthy Joey Donner, who wants her for reasons of his own.

The film was directed by Gil Junger and written by Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith, and it was the first feature in Junger's directing career, followed later by titles such as Black Knight and If Only. Heath Ledger plays Patrick, Julia Stiles plays Kat, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Cameron, with Larisa Oleynik, David Krumholtz and Andrew Keegan among a credited cast of 44 and crew of 84. Made for around 16 million dollars, it took in roughly 53 million worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 7.4 out of 10 from about 446,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.6 out of 10 from more than 9,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 93 reviews sits below both audience scores.
