Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva

Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva introduces Shiva, a young man living in present-day India who falls in love with a woman named Isha. Their relationship is disrupted when Shiva discovers that he shares a mysterious connection with the Brahmāstra, an ancient weapon tied to the god Brahma, and that he possesses an elemental power of fire he cannot yet control. The film draws on concepts from Indian mythology while placing them in a contemporary setting, and it opens a planned universe of stories built around beings known as Astras. Ranbir Kapoor plays Shiva, with Alia Bhatt as Isha, Mouni Roy as Junoon, Amitabh Bachchan as Guru, Nagarjuna Akkineni as Anish Shetty, and Shah Rukh Khan as Mohan Bhargav.

Ayan Mukerji directed and wrote the screenplay and also produced alongside Karan Johar and Ranbir Kapoor. It was his second directorial feature, following Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013 and preceding War 2 in 2025. Made on a budget of about 50 million dollars, the film grossed roughly the same amount worldwide, so it did not recover a large multiple of its cost at the box office. Audience response was modest: on IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 115,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from a much smaller sample. A critics' rating of 5.7 from 35 reviews places it close to the IMDb audience score.

The cast runs to 24 credited performers, and the film was released in September 2022 with a runtime of 168 minutes. It is an Indian production in the action, adventure and fantasy genres.
