Gothika

Miranda Grey is a criminal psychologist working at a remote psychiatric institution for women, where her husband Douglas is the director. After a car crash on a side road, she wakes to find three days have passed and that she is now an inmate in that same institution, accused of murdering her husband. She has no memory of the crime, and the evidence points to her. As she tries to piece together what happened, she becomes convinced that a vengeful presence is using her, pushing everyone around her closer to certainty of her guilt. Among the patients she encounters is Chloe Sava, whose connection to the events she must work out.

Mathieu Kassovitz directed the film, the fourth of the five features listed for him, following The Crimson Rivers and followed by Babylon A.D. Sebastian Gutierrez wrote the screenplay, and Robert Zemeckis, Joel Silver and Susan Downey produced it for Dark Castle Entertainment. Halle Berry plays Miranda, with Robert Downey Jr. as her colleague Pete Graham, Charles S. Dutton as Douglas Grey, John Carroll Lynch, Bernard Hill and Penélope Cruz as Chloe Sava in support.

Released in November 2003, the film runs 98 minutes. Made for about 40 million dollars, it returned roughly 142 million dollars worldwide, a strong multiple of its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.8 from about 124,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 from over 2,600 votes. Critics were harder on it, with a critics' rating of 4.2 from 164 reviews.
