Jewel Robbery is a 1932 comedy about a refined thief who charms a baroness in Vienna while carrying out a bold daylight robbery at a jewellery shop. Baroness Teri Hohenfels, the wealthy wife of Baron Franz Hohenfels, visits the jeweller Holländer with her husband when a carefully planned heist unfolds around them. The gang's elegant leader behaves with impeccable manners and keeps up polite conversation while he and his accomplices gather the loot and have it carried to a waiting car by the unaware guard Lenz. Rather than being alarmed, the baroness is taken with the gentleman criminal, even as he takes her new diamond ring along with the rest of the haul. He later reappears at her home at a late hour, showing himself to be a romantic figure in her eyes. The film was directed by William Dieterle, the second of the eleven titles listed in his directing career, following Sex in Chains and preceding A Midsummer Night's Dream. William Powell plays the robber, with Kay Francis as Baroness Teri, Helen Vinson as Marianne Horn, Hardie Albright as Paul, Henry Kolker as Baron Franz Hohenfels and Spencer Charters as Lenz, among 36 credited cast members. Made by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film runs 68 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from around 3,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.5 from 46 votes, indicating a smaller but somewhat more favourable response on the former.
