Book Club

Book Club follows four longtime friends who meet regularly for a book club, until one of them brings in Fifty Shades of Grey. The erotic novel pushes the women, all in their sixties, to rethink their romantic lives. Diane, recently widowed and under pressure from her daughters to move, meets someone new. Vivian, who has avoided commitment, reconnects with a man she once turned down. Sharon, long divorced, starts exploring dating again, while Carol tries to bring fresh energy to a marriage that has grown stale. Each woman's story unfolds as the reading unsettles their routines and opens up new possibilities.

The film was directed by Bill Holderman, who wrote the screenplay with Erin Simms; both also produced alongside Alex Saks. It was Holderman's first film as director, followed by Book Club: The Next Chapter in 2023. Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen lead the cast, with Andy García and Craig T. Nelson in supporting roles. The production was made for 10 million dollars and took in 104 million worldwide.
