Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan

Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan is a 2019 Australian war film directed by Kriv Stenders. Set during the Vietnam War in 1966, it follows Major Harry Smith and the men of Delta Company, a unit of Australian and New Zealand soldiers sent to support South Vietnam and the United States. Most of the soldiers are young recruits and volunteers with no combat experience. On 18 August, they find themselves facing a much larger force of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops in a rubber plantation called Long Tan. Outnumbered and running low on ammunition, with casualties mounting, the men must hold their ground and fight for survival against an enemy preparing for a final assault.

The film stars Travis Fimmel as Major Harry Smith, alongside Luke Bracey, Daniel Webber, Alexander England, Aaron Glenane and Nicholas Hamilton. It was written by Stuart Beattie, Karel Segers and Jack Brislee, with Beattie also producing. It was released in 2019 and runs just under two hours. It sits between Stenders' earlier films, Red Dog and Kill Me Three Times, and his later work, The Correspondent and Joh: Last King of Queensland. The production had a budget of 24 million USD and took about 2 million USD at the worldwide box office.
