The Fanatic

Moose is a devoted film fan who fixates on Hunter Dunbar, an action star he believes will want to be his friend if they can only meet. A first attempt to approach the actor ends badly, and after learning where Dunbar lives, Moose begins watching him and turns up wherever the star goes. When Dunbar pushes back against the unwanted attention, Moose's behaviour escalates into an obsession that threatens both men's lives.

The Fanatic is a crime and horror-tinged thriller directed by Fred Durst, his second feature after The Longshots, and written by Durst with Dave Bekerman. John Travolta, who also produced, plays Moose, with Devon Sawa as Hunter Dunbar, Ana Golja as Leah, James Paxton as Slim, Jessica Uberuaga as Brenda and Luis Da Silva Jr. as Luis.

Released in 2019, the film had a budget of about 18 million US dollars and runs 89 minutes. Audiences rate it low: on IMDb it sits at 4.1 out of 10 from around 14,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 4.4 out of 10 from far fewer votes. Critics were harsher still, giving it 3.6 out of 10 across 73 reviews, a score below even the modest audience figures.
