Whispers: An Elephant's Tale

Whispers: An Elephant's Tale follows a young elephant calf who is separated from his mother, Gentle Heart, shortly after learning to walk. As he searches for her, he encounters Groove, a solitary female who has left her herd behind and has no interest in caring for a calf. Reluctantly, she takes him under her protection, and the two set off together across the African savanna in search of water and of Whispers' mother. The film was shot in the wild with real elephants, whose movements were matched to human voices, and it was directed by Dereck Joubert, who also wrote the screenplay with Holly Goldberg Sloan and Jordan Moffet.

The voice cast includes Angela Bassett as Groove, Anne Archer as Gentle Heart, Joanna Lumley as Half Tusk, Betty White as Round, Debi Derryberry as the young Whispers, and Kevin Michael Richardson as the adult Whispers. The film runs 72 minutes and was released by Walt Disney Pictures in October 2000.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 5 out of 10 from 444 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 14 votes. The two scores are close, indicating a largely similar response from both audiences.
