Jessica Holland, a Scottish orchid grower living in Colombia, is awakened one night by a loud bang. The sound seems to have come from outside her, yet no one around her hears anything like it. While visiting her sister Karen in a Bogotá hospital, Jessica befriends an archaeologist examining human remains uncovered during a tunnel construction project and a young musician, and she begins to sense that the noise carries some kind of foreboding. Her search to understand where it comes from takes her from the city into the jungle, and her grip on ordinary reality loosens along the way. Tilda Swinton plays Jessica; Agnes Brekke, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Jerónimo Barón, Juan Pablo Urrego and Jeanne Balibar appear alongside her.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul wrote and directed the film, his first shot outside Thailand and the sixth feature in the chronological list of his directing credits, following Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and several shorter projects, and preceding Durmiente and A Flower of Forgetfulness. Michael Weber, Charles de Meaux and the director produced it, with 63 crew members credited.

Released in 2021, the film runs 136 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from about 13,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6 from 285 votes, both indicating moderate audience approval, while a film critics' rating of 8.1 from 139 reviews is considerably higher.
