Death Note Relight 1: Visions of a God

A high school student named Light Yagami discovers a supernatural notebook dropped by a shinigami named Ryuk. The book grants him the ability to kill anyone by writing their name in its pages. Light uses this power to eliminate criminals and establish a world without evil, taking on the persona of Kira. His actions draw the attention of the police and a mysterious, genius investigator known as L, leading to a mental battle between the two. Told from the perspective of Ryuk, this film summarizes the first 26 episodes of the original series and includes new footage and dialogue.

Directed by Tetsuro Araki, this 2007 Japanese production from Madhouse was the first of several films in the director's career, followed by Death Note Relight 2: L's Successors in 2009. The voice cast features Mamoru Miyano as Light Yagami, Shido Nakamura as Ryuk, and Kappei Yamaguchi as L, with Aya Hirano as Misa Amane. In total, 20 cast members are credited. The film has been received positively by audiences, holding a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDb based on 2,000 votes and a higher score of 7.9/10 on TMDB from 404 votes.
