The Hunt

A group of strangers wakes up in a wooded clearing with no memory of how they got there, gagged and surrounded by a crate of weapons. They soon learn they have been selected as prey by wealthy people who have gathered at a remote location to hunt ordinary citizens for entertainment. One of the captives, Crystal, refuses to accept her role as a victim and begins turning the hunters' own game against them.

The film is directed by Craig Zobel, his third feature after Compliance and Z for Zachariah, from a screenplay by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse. Lindelof also produced alongside Jason Blum. Betty Gilpin plays Crystal, with Hilary Swank as Athena, the woman organizing the hunt, and Ethan Suplee, Teri Wyble, Ike Barinholtz and Wayne Duvall among the cast.

Released in March 2020, the film runs 90 minutes and mixes action, horror and thriller elements. It cost about 14 million dollars to produce and took in roughly 12 million worldwide, less than its budget. Reception among viewers is moderate and consistent: it holds a 6.6 rating on IMDb from about 152,000 votes and a 6.7 on TMDB from roughly 3,800 votes. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 275 reviews places professional opinion close to the audience response.
