Granny Project is a documentary road movie that follows three young men traveling through Great Britain, Germany, and Hungary. Over the course of seven years, these grandsons engage in a dialogue with their grandmothers to understand their family heritage and personal identities. The film examines the wartime experiences of the three women, who include a dancer from Nazi Germany, an English spy, and a Hungarian communist who survived the Holocaust. By exploring these historical legacies and taboo topics, the film also offers a look at the perspectives of today's youth.
The film was directed by Bálint Révész, marking the first entry in a list of two directed works, followed by KIX in 2024. The screenplay was written by Ruben Woodin Dechamps, and the project was produced by László Kántor through the production company Gallivant Film. A joint production between the United Kingdom and Hungary, the documentary has a runtime of 89 minutes and was released on July 11, 2017.
