The Rub

The Rub is a Hungarian animated drama that presents a retelling of a Shakespearean play. The story is told through the internal perspective and consciousness of the main character. To achieve a psychedelic visual style, the creators used 16 mm and 35 mm celluloid strips that were hand-painted or chemically degraded.

The film was directed by Bori Máté and Péter Lichter, the latter of whom also wrote the screenplay. Within the chronological body of work for the directors, this project follows Frozen May and precedes Empty Horses. Szabolcs Hajdu stars as the protagonist, Hamlet. Released on February 21, 2018, the movie has a total runtime of 60 minutes.
