Short description
Abby intends to propose to her girlfriend, Harper, during Harper's family's annual holiday gathering. The plan falls apart when she learns that Harper has never told her conservative parents about her sexuality or about their relationship, leaving Abby to navigate the visit as an unacknowledged guest. The situation forces Abby to reconsider the relationship and the person she thought she knew.
Clea DuVall directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Mary Holland. It is her second feature as director, following The Intervention in 2016. Kristen Stewart plays Abby and Mackenzie Davis plays Harper, with Mary Steenburgen, Victor Garber, Alison Brie and Holland in supporting roles. Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner produced for Temple Hill Entertainment.
Released in November 2020, the film runs 102 minutes. It earned roughly 1 million USD worldwide, a modest figure that reflects a pandemic-era release rather than audience disinterest. On IMDb it holds 6.6/10 from about 53,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.1/10 from far fewer votes, around 1,345. A critics' rating of 6.9/10 from 214 reviews places professional opinion slightly above the larger audience sample.
