Sorry We Missed You

Ricky and Abby Turner live in Newcastle with their two children, getting by on irregular work and carrying debts that date back years. Ricky picks up casual jobs while Abby cares for elderly people at home, and neither can see a way to secure a house of their own. When Ricky learns he can work as a self-employed courier for a delivery firm, the couple bet everything on it: Abby sells her car so he can buy a van. The arrangement soon proves harsher than expected, as the company assigns his routes and monitors his performance while he bears the costs, and the hours required to make the venture pay leave little room for family life. Abby's own working days are just as punishing, and the pressure tests the family's closeness.
