Blackie the Pirate

Blackie the Pirate is a Spanish-Italian adventure comedy from 1971. A Spanish viceroy is preparing to send a large shipment of gold from the American colonies back to Spain, and word of it reaches the pirates of the Caribbean. The British corsair Blackie learns of the cargo and sets out to take it for himself, but he is not alone in wanting the treasure. Other pirate captains, including the formidable Skull, have their own plans for the gold, and cooperation soon gives way to rivalry. The film was directed by Lorenzo Gicca Palli, who also co-wrote the screenplay with George Martin, and was the first of the two features he directed, followed by Liebes Lager in 1976.

Terence Hill plays Blackie and Bud Spencer plays Skull, the pair whose screen partnership was already well established by this point. Silvia Monti appears as Isabel de Mendoza y Laguna, with George Martin as Don Pedro, Diana Lorys as Manuela and Mónica Randall as Carmen.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.2 out of 10 from around 2,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.8 out of 10 from 94 votes. Those figures point to a modest, mixed reception for a broadly commercial genre picture rather than a widely acclaimed one.
