Dolemite Is My Name

Dolemite Is My Name follows Rudy Ray Moore, a comedian and entertainer struggling to find his footing in 1970s Los Angeles. When Hollywood shows no interest in him, he reinvents himself with a raunchy stage persona named Dolemite, whose rhyming, sexually explicit routines strike a chord with black audiences. That success pushes him to take a bigger gamble: making his own film around the character, a pimp surrounded by women skilled in kung fu, with everything riding on whether he can pull it off.

Craig Brewer directed the film, which sits between his 2011 Footloose and Coming 2 America in 2021, from a screenplay by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Eddie Murphy plays Moore and also produced, alongside John Fox and John Davis. Wesley Snipes appears as D'Urville Martin, with Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Lady Reed, Keegan-Michael Key as Jerry Jones, Mike Epps as Jimmy Lynch and Craig Robinson as Ben Taylor among a credited cast of 96.

Released in 2019 and running 118 minutes, the film drew a critics' rating of 7.9/10 from 235 reviews, higher than its audience scores on IMDb and TMDB, which stand at 7.2/10 from 63,915 votes and 7/10 from 1,334 votes respectively.
