Chandramukhi is a 2005 Indian horror comedy-drama directed and written by P. Vasu. It follows Senthilnathan and his wife Ganga, who marry against their families' wishes and move into an old mansion. Strange events soon unsettle the household, and these are linked to the spirit of Chandramukhi, a woman associated with the house from roughly a century and a half earlier, who is said to have died there and to have returned for revenge. Senthilnathan's brother, Dr. Saravanan, a psychiatrist, comes to the family's aid. He investigates the disturbances with the help of a spiritual guide, while suspicion also falls on people close to the household. Rajinikanth plays the dual roles of Dr. Saravanan and Vettaiyan Raja, with Jyothika as Ganga and Chandramukhi. Prabhu, Nassar, Vadivelu and Avinash appear in supporting parts, and the credited cast numbers 26.
The film runs 164 minutes and mixes comedy, drama and horror. It was produced by Sivaji Productions, with Prabhu and Ramkumar Ganesan as producers. It was released on 14 April 2005.
Chandramukhi is the eighth of the thirteen films P. Vasu has directed, following Asathal and preceding Thottal Poo Malarum. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from around 8,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 6.8 from a much smaller number of votes.
