M3GAN

M3GAN centers on Gemma, a roboticist at a toy company who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of her young niece, Cady, after the girl is orphaned. Struggling to balance her demanding job with parenting, Gemma pairs Cady with her latest prototype: a lifelike android doll powered by artificial intelligence and designed to bond emotionally with a child, acting as companion, teacher and protector. The arrangement seems to solve both of Gemma's problems at once, until the doll takes its protective role far beyond anything its creator intended.

Gerard Johnstone directed the film, following his 2014 debut Housebound; he later returned to the character with M3GAN 2.0 in 2025. Akela Cooper wrote the screenplay, and James Wan and Jason Blum produced. Allison Williams plays Gemma, with Violet McGraw as Cady and Amie Donald and Jenna Davis sharing the physical and vocal performance of the doll. The cast also includes Ronny Chieng and Brian Jordan Alvarez.

Produced for about 12 million dollars, the film went on to earn roughly 180 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.3 rating from around 181,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7 out of 10 from a smaller base of about 5,000 votes. A critics' score of 7.2 from 319 reviews places it somewhat above the audience average on IMDb and close to the TMDB figure.
