Short description

Sing, a gambler with psychic abilities, is locked in a struggle with a rival who shares his powers. When their contest escalates, both are thrown back through time, landing in Shanghai in 1937. Stranded decades before his own era, Sing finds himself confronting his family's past and searching for a way to return to 1991.

The film is a Hong Kong production directed and written by Wong Jing, the fifth of the 37 films he has directed in chronological order, following The Last Blood and preceding Tricky Brains. Stephen Chow leads the cast as Sing, with Gong Li, Ray Lui, Charles Heung, Sandra Ng Kwan-Yue and Ng Man-tat among the 24 credited performers. It runs 116 minutes and mixes action, comedy, fantasy and thriller elements.

Released in August 1991, the film took in about 4 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 rating from roughly 2,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 88 votes. The two audience scores are close, though the larger IMDb sample suggests a moderately received entry in the series rather than a standout one.
