The Biggest Little Farm

The Biggest Little Farm is a documentary about John and Molly Chester, a married couple who leave their life in Los Angeles to pursue their dream of running their own farm. John had worked as a documentary filmmaker and Molly as a professional chef, and together they take on a piece of depleted land north of the city, hoping to grow a large, organic operation in tune with nature. Their plans soon run into trouble, and they discover that the balance they want cannot simply be imposed, but has to be learned from the land and the wildlife around them.

John Chester directs, and he and Mark Monroe wrote the screenplay. Chester also narrates and appears alongside Molly and their son Beaudie. The film was released in June 2019 and runs 91 minutes. It is one of a small number of features Chester has directed. Its modest worldwide gross of about 5 million dollars reflects a documentary that found a wider audience than most in its genre.
