Baek Sang-ah carries the weight of a prison record that shapes how others see her and how she keeps them at a distance. After her mother dies, she moves into the apartment the woman left behind, and she keeps noticing a barefoot eleven-year-old girl, Ji-eun, who is being abused at home. Recognizing her own suffering in the child, Sang-ah begins to look out for her and resolves to pull her away from the violence surrounding her. A man with feelings for Sang-ah, Jang-seop, tries to shield her in his own manner as she takes on the risk of intervening.
Lee Ji-won wrote and directed the film, her first feature, followed later by Portrait of a Family. Han Ji-min plays Sang-ah, with Kim Si-a as Ji-eun, Lee Hee-jun as Jang-seop, Kwon So-hyun as Joo Mi-kyeong, Baek Soo-jang as Il-gon, and Jang Young-nam as Sang-ah's mother. Produced through CJ Entertainment, Little Big Pictures and Bae Pictures, with Kang Ga-mi producing, the Korean crime drama runs 98 minutes.
Released in October 2018, the film took in roughly 5 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds a 6.8 rating from about 1,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.4 from a much smaller group of 55 votes. The gap suggests the film plays better with the smaller, more self-selecting audience that sought it out than with the broader viewership that rated it elsewhere.
