Amundsen

Amundsen follows the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who led the expedition that became the first to reach the South Pole and who later became the first person to stand at both poles. Driven by an ambition that shapes his entire life, he sacrifices family ties, friendships and the woman he loves to pursue the polar regions. The story moves between his early fascination with the poles, his complicated bond with his brother Leon, and the long, costly expeditions that defined him.

Espen Sandberg directed the film, working from a screenplay by Ravn Lanesskog. It was Sandberg's fifth feature, following Bandidas, Max Manus: Man of War, Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Pål Sverre Hagen plays Amundsen, with Katherine Waterston as Bess Magids, Christian Rubeck as Leon Amundsen, Trond Espen Seim as Fridtjof Nansen, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen as Helmer Hanssen and Ole Christoffer Ertvaag as Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen. The production, a Norwegian, Czech and Swedish co-production, credits 26 cast members and 118 crew.

Released in 2019 and running 125 minutes, the film is a historical adventure drama. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from 196 votes, suggesting a modest response from those who have logged it.
