Short description
Eleven-year-old Margaret Simon moves with her family from New York City to the suburbs of New Jersey, where she must adjust to a new school, new friendships and the changes that come with the start of adolescence. Her mother Barbara is Christian and her father Herbert is Jewish, and Margaret sets out to work out her own religious identity. She leans on Barbara, who is also finding life outside the city an adjustment, and on her grandmother Sylvia, who is unhappy about the move. The film is based on Judy Blume's 1970 novel.
Kelly Fremon Craig wrote and directed the film, her second feature after The Edge of Seventeen in 2016. Abby Ryder Fortson plays Margaret, with Rachel McAdams as Barbara, Kathy Bates as Sylvia, Elle Graham, Benny Safdie and Amari Alexis Price among the cast. James L. Brooks, Amy Brooks and Richard Sakai produced.
With a budget of about 30 million dollars, the film took in roughly 22 million dollars worldwide. Audiences rate it 7.3 out of 10 on IMDb from around 38,000 votes and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB. Critics' reviews average 8.4 out of 10, notably higher than the audience scores.

- The author of the novel on which this film is based, Judy Blume, refused requests and offers to allow its adaptation for several decades. She agreed only when director and screenwriter Kelly Fremon Montgomеry promised to strictly adhere to the spirit of the original book, and ultimately remained very pleased with the resulting film, stating that it turned out even better than the book.
- In one of the scenes, in the distance, you can spot the van of the maniac played by Ethan Hawke from Scott Derrickson's horror film 'The Black Phone' (2021). Both films were shot simultaneously in North Carolina, and the crews often shared specialists and vehicles with each other.
