Brahms: The Boy II

A young family moves into the Heelshire Mansion, unaware of the house's dark history. The parents, Liza and Sean, hope the change of surroundings will help their son Jude recover from a traumatic experience. Instead, the boy becomes attached to a lifelike porcelain doll he names Brahms, refusing to be parted from it. As Jude's behavior grows more withdrawn and strange events begin to occur around the doll, Liza starts to suspect that Brahms is not merely a toy.

The film is a sequel to The Boy, continuing the story of the doll rather than remaking it. William Brent Bell returned to direct, as he had the 2016 original, with Stacey Menear again writing the screenplay. It is the fifth film in Bell's directing career, arriving between Wer and Separation. Katie Holmes leads the cast as Liza, alongside Christopher Convery as Jude and Owain Yeoman as Sean. Produced on a budget of about 10 million dollars, it took in roughly twice that amount worldwide. Reception was mixed to negative: on IMDb it holds 4.7 out of 10 from 22,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 out of 10 from 1,328 votes. A critics' score of 3.7 out of 10 from 56 reviews sits below even the modest audience figures.
